Odiist Do More Than Just Design

January 31, 2019

How hard could mass production planning be for industrial designers? Now that the design lay out has been drawn and the model has been made, it will definitely be done! How I wish things are as simple as that! 2D pictures, 3D renders, and prototype models can all present designs. However, when it comes to the mass production, it will be another story. Making one or ten is utterly different from making ten thousand. It is not possible for designers to completely master the techniques and experiences required while these elements are extremely important to design.

The industrial designer’s work does not include the subsequent manufacturing process, but we decided to take over this part. To be more precise, we prefer to start from the concept and proceed to present a product completed. As an industrial designer, it is kind of greedy and possessive to be obsessed with carrying out the design into a product. However, it is also a sense of duty. Watching it being made by others, or not being made at all, we’d rather do it ourselves.

Although ODIIST’s designers had already considered various problems concerning mass production and assembly we design, there are always unexpected situations. Surface processing, paints and coatings, temperature, chemical reactions, adhesive, material properties and interference of diverse materials, endless problems keep coming up. There’s always something need to be improved. The pursuit of perfection is never easy and the truth is there’s no way to achieve it. All we can do is to spare no effort to make it better and better.

ODIIST’s team had never satisfied with designing. We keep moving on to solve manufacturing problems and providing the product for our clients. Expending the role of designer, we aim to save all the troublesome of design and mass production throughout the process of product development.
